Making room for what comes next…

There’s something about saying an idea out loud that makes it harder to keep putting it off.

That’s part of why I’m starting this newsletter.

Earlier this year, I attended a Speakers Institute bootcamp that sparked an idea I haven’t been able to leave alone. It connected my own experiences with the work I care most about, and I feel compelled to see where I can take it.

I’m now developing that idea through speaking and writing. Sharing here is a way to keep myself accountable, stay on track and make room for new horizons.

Across my work in human resources, workforce development and industry engagement, the moments that have brought me the most joy have often involved helping someone see a possibility for themselves.

A pathway they didn’t know existed. An introduction that opened a door. A conversation that helped them recognise what they had to offer.

I want to do more of that.

Supporting women to enter unfamiliar industries, grow their careers and step into leadership gives my work meaning. So does working with employers and industry to create opportunities and environments where that growth can happen.

I want to make an impact in individual lives and contribute to change across industries.

Increasingly, I’m interested in the beliefs and expectations that influence our choices. What we think we’re capable of. What we’ve learned to accept. What we rule out before we’ve had a chance to explore it.

I recognise those questions in my own life too.

There are things I want to pursue that feel closer to what I’m made for. Saying that feels a little exposing, but it also feels honest. I want to follow the work that brings me joy and use what I’ve learned to make a meaningful contribution.

Each week, I’ll share a thought, an observation or a question about women, work, growth and leadership.

I hope these pieces give you something useful to consider. And writing them will remind me to keep taking my own next steps.

What work brings you the most joy – and are you making room for more of it?
